Joseph: Hi everyone, it is the fourth day of my surgery recovery and I feel absolutely fantastic. As you can see I’m not wearing the gauze anymore. I didn’t really have to today because nothing is really dripping. It’s all pretty much out of there.Today, I didn’t feel tired at all. I was able to get some stuff done. I did my summer reading. I could focus on books, I could read without my head starting to hurt because of all of this pressure in here. It kind of makes my head hurt when I turn to read.
But yeah, I can actually already tell that I can breathe better. I just cleaned out my nose for the night and there’s still some liquid in there. But earlier today, I was actually breathing through my nose which was surprising and I can tell that my septum is straight.
The only thing that bugs me is when I watch funny movies or somebody says something funny and I laugh, my nose widens a little and the stitches hurt and it’s obviously, as you can see, my mouth, my upper lip is a little limp so when I smile, instead of looking like a good smile, it looks more like that. I can’t really smile.
So hopefully, that one will go away once I get everything out of my nose and the cast off and it gets a little more flexible but I actually feel fantastic and I’m surprised that it’s Friday and I got my surgery on Monday and I feel this good already.
I didn’t…well I took a Vicodin before I’m going to go to bed just in case ’cause there was a night that I woke up in pain so… But during the day, I didn’t feel any pain at all. I was able to walk around and I made myself lunch. I had some pasta and some broccoli and those are soft-ish but I’m able to chew normally and I was able to go outside and sit on my back deck and enjoy some fresh air and read and actually do some stuff so I’m really glad about that because it’s nice to know that hopefully I get the cast off on Tuesday. Tomorrow is Saturday. Hopefully during the weekend, I’ll be able to get some more stuff around the house done and then next week, I should be able to live my life normally or semi-normally again but it’s all going really well. Dr. Nassif did a fantastic job.
The only thing that’s a little tricky is washing my hair. I have to have someone else help me because I, instead of putting something over my nose when taking a shower, I find it easier to do it in the sink than have my mom help me wash it. So, it’s a little tricky but I’m able to wash my hair, brush my teeth, do everything normally again and I don’t even feel all that stuffed up.
Obviously, there are splints and a cast on my nose so it feels a little awkward but like during the night, I can kind of breathe through my nose a little bit so it’s absolutely perfect and I’m doing well.
