Asian rhinoplasty is a type of nose surgery that is specific to those of Asian descent. Rhinoplasty produces the best results when it is tailored to each patient. Even though the goal is the same in rhinoplasty, the nasal features of Asians and Caucasians are often very distinct. The techniques used to address the differences are typically completely different.
The Goal of Asian Rhinoplasty
The aim of Asian rhinoplasty surgery is the creation of a nose that looks natural for those of Asian descent rather than a Caucasian nose on a face with Asian features. The objective of Asian rhinoplasty is to tweak the nose to provide a natural look and to augment the nose to make it balanced with the other features of the face. A good rhinoplasty will not have the appearance of dramatic surgical enhancement.
Benefits of Asian Rhinoplasty
Asian rhinoplasty enhances the beauty of the nose. Rhinoplasty can focus on the following aspects of the nose:
• Reinforced nasal tip
• Improved nasal bridge
• Symmetric width
• Fine-tuned nostril width
• Refined nasal definition
The results of Asian rhinoplasty are natural and balanced with the other facial characteristics. The nose complements the face, making the facial appearance look harmonious.
Asian Rhinoplasty Options
• Insertion of Nasal Implants
Rhinoplasty now involves natural and synthetic implants. Silicon, Gore-Tex, and MEDPOR are some of the materials used for implants. Natural tissues from the patient’s body, such as cartilage from the ear and other parts of the nose, are used for those who want natural implants.
• Changes in Length
The length of the nose can be increased or decreased as needed. If the nasal length has to be reduced, the nasal tip is redirected and elevated. If the nasal length has to be augmented, cartilage from the alae is transferred to the nasal tip while lengthening the inner nasal surface and the skin.
• Reduction Rhinoplasty
Some patients have a large nose with a dominant dorsal hump. If the hump needs modification, the lower portion of the bump is shaved and chiseled down. If it is protruding, the cartilage supporting the bump is altered and the skin and fat are reduced to allow it to cover the alteration.
• Alar Base Excision Rhinoplasty
Some patients require reduction of the width of the nasal base. A full-thickness wedge of tissue is removed from the outer rim of each nostril to reduce the width of the nasal base.
• Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
An alternative to surgical rhinoplasty, long-lasting fillers are injected to elevate the nasal bridge, smooth out depressions and bumps, and build up the nasal dorsum.
• Increase in Definition at the Nasal Tip
The projection of the nasal tip might be flat in some cases. Cartilage from the patient’s body is used to augment the nasal tip.
After the surgery has been completed, the patient may be given a splint that is attached to their nose. After the removal of the splint, the patient can indulge in light activities and can return to work. If there is any tenderness or discoloration, that will disappear shortly. Full recovery from rhinoplasty will be discussed with your surgeon.
